Walking on Winter afternoons in the woods, I love to witness this daily miracle, that liminal space where day yields to night. In this painting I wanted to capture that golden moment, that last magical scene when the sinking sun turns the world golden. The bare branches seem to yearn to hold onto the light for a few more seconds, and the pink gold aura illuminates everything before it disappears. The cold blue shadows reaching long fingers across the snow contrast with the lingering warmth and hint at the freezing night which is waiting in the wings.
